Types of Hernia
Diaphragmatic Hernia
Diaphragmatic hernia is a defect or hole in the diaphragm that allows the abdominal contents to move into the chest cavity. Treatment is usually surgical.
Femoral Hernia
Femoral hernias occur just below the inguinal ligament, when abdominal contents pass through a naturally occurring weakness in the abdominal wall called the femoral canal.
Hiatal Hernia
A hiatus hernia, or hiatal hernia, is when part of the stomach squeezes up into the chest through an opening ('hiatus') in the diaphragm. The diaphragm is a large, thin sheet of muscle between the chest and the abdomen (tummy).
Incisional Hernia
Incisional hernia refers to abdominal wall hernia at the site of a previous surgical incision. It is a type of ventral hernia. Midline incisional hernias are more common than other sites. It can be a definite hernia with all the hernia components of the defect, sac, and content.
Inguinal Hernia
Also called as the Groin Hernia. This is one of the commonest hernia encountered in males & females. This happens due to weakness in the "inguinal region" as a result of which intestine or abdominal fat (omentum) protrudes out of the defect.
Lumbar Hernia
Lumbar hernia is a condition where the tissues inside the abdomen protrude through the abdominal wall and cause lower back pain1. It is also known as a flank hernia and typically occurs in individuals aged 50 to 70 and are more common in men.
Parastomal Hernia
A parastomal hernia is a type of incisional hernia allowing abdominal contents to protrude through an abdominal wall defect in the stoma.
Spigelian Hernia
A Spigelian is the type of ventral hernia where aponeurotic fascia pushes through a hole in the junction of the linea semilunaris and the arcuate line creating a bulge. It appears in the abdomen lower quadrant between an area of dense fibrous tissue and abdominal wall muscles causing a (Spigelian aponeurosis).
Umbilical Hernia
An umbilical hernia occurs when part of the bowel or fatty tissue pushes through the abdominal wall near the navel. It can cause a soft swelling or bulge near the navel.
